Top 5 Kids Birthday Party Games

Top 5 Kids Birthday Party Games

So you’re planning a party for your child, and you’ve invited your guests and picked a venue. What next? An important step is planning how you will entertain the children you have invited for the duration of the party.

Our guide to kids party games will help you to plan the best options for your child and their friends, and we hope that this will be useful to you as you plan a party that your child will always remember. Here at PartyWorld, we have some party games you’ll love, as well as all the partyware, decorations and props you will need to fit your theme.

TOP 5 BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES KIDS LOVE

Most children love playing party games, but it can take some thought to find games that will suit your child’s age and personality. Children with specific interests may wish to spend their party doing other things, such as building lego challenges, for example, and it is important to talk with your child about their vision for their birthday party so that you can figure out the sort of games that will make it a special day for them.

HERE ARE SOME TRADITIONAL GAMES AND NEW IDEAS FOR PARTY GAMES WE LOVE:

  1. PASS THE PARCEL

Pass the parcel is a classic kids party game and it’s also an easy one to set up and run. You will need a small gift, perhaps linked to the theme of your party, and you can wrap it in brightly coloured paper to identify it as the ‘prize’. Then, simply wrap up the prize in several more layers of paper - newspaper is ideal - and include a sweet within each layer to ensure that the game is exciting for everyone. The children can be seated in a circle and pass the parcel around while you play music, and then each time the music stops, the child holding the parcel can remove a layer.

  1. MUSICAL CHAIRS

Musical chairs is an old favourite and it can get competitive! You will need enough chairs for each child to sit on one, or you can use cushions if this is easier. Choose some music that your child loves, and encourage children to dance or walk around the chairs or cushions until the music stops. When you stop the music, children will need to find a chair or cushion to sit on. Each time you start the music, you should remove a chair or cushion, and the child who is unable to reach a cushion in time is out. The winner is the child who sits down first when the last cushion remains. You can give out sweets to the children who are out as they leave the game, and you can give a prize - edible or otherwise - to the child who wins.

  1. TREASURE HUNT

Atreasure hunt is a great way to include everyone in the party celebrations, and there are many ways to make this work. You might opt for a scavenger hunt game, in which groups or individuals are encouraged to find items from a list or fit several items into a matchbox, or a treasure hunt with rhyming clues. A simple hunt for hidden treats may be the easiest option for young children, but you may wish to limit the number of treats each child finds to ensure that everyone has a chance to join in.

  1. PIÑATA

Piñatas are a centuries-old tradition, often associated with Mexico, in which a box, usually containing sweets, is hung up and hit with a stick until it bursts. Piñatas have become more and more elaborate in recent years, and you can make your own or order one readymade. Here at PartyWorld, we have a great range of Piñatas so you can choose one to suit your theme, and fill it with sweets or treats that you know your guests will love. Each child can take a turn at hitting the piñata, and you may wish to restrict this to one hit per child initially to ensure that everyone gets a turn before it breaks!

  1. CRAFT ACTIVITIES

It’s important to remember that not every child will want to play party games. If you have a child who is not confident or does not like group games, don’t be afraid to do things differently and throw the sort of party that you know they will enjoy. You could set up a table with some craft activities that relate to your theme or even arrange a baking activity for the children to enjoy in small groups. Making princess crowns or baking gingerbread pirates can be a great way to encourage even the most hesitant child to take part in the party, and their creations can double up as a gift to take home, too.

You will also need to allow time for the children to settle in when they arrive, and to eat during the party, so you won’t need to plan activities for the entire duration.
